Choose Avocado if

  • You want voices made on your Mac, with no account and nothing uploaded.
  • You like choosing between many open models, and training a voice on your own recordings.
  • You want a free studio with projects, takes and tags for your work.

Choose ElevenLabs if

  • You want the most polished voices with no setup at all, on any device.
  • You need dubbing, music, a large voice library or an API for your app.

ElevenLabs and Avocado both turn text into natural speech, clone voices and design new ones from a description. The big difference is where the work happens, and what you trade for that.

ElevenLabs is ready the moment you sign up

ElevenLabs runs in the cloud. Make an account and you have polished voices, cloning, voice design, sound effects, music and dubbing straight away, in the browser or on your phone. There’s a free plan with a monthly allowance, and paid plans add more credits and features such as instant and professional voice cloning.

Avocado runs on your Mac

Avocado makes voices on your Mac, with open voice models that you add yourself. That means a little setup, and the quality depends on the models you choose. In return, there’s no account, your scripts and recordings stay on your Mac, and you can try many different models side by side in one studio.

Avocado also lets you teach a model your own voice from one to thirty minutes of recordings, and edit the emotion or pace of a finished take.

The short version

If you want the best results with zero setup and don’t mind the cloud, choose ElevenLabs. If you’d rather keep your voice work on your Mac, with no account and a free app, choose Avocado.

Questions

Is Avocado as good as ElevenLabs?

It depends on the model you use. ElevenLabs has had years of polish and is ready instantly. Avocado's quality comes from the open models you choose, and some of the best are very good, but you do the setup.

Can I use both?

Yes. Avocado exports WAV, AIFF and M4A files, so you can use Avocado for private drafts and voices you've trained, and ElevenLabs where you need its features.
